Abba

Fear has a way of sneaking in and trying to tell us who we are. It reminds us of our failures, labels us by our past, and whispers lies about our worth. But Romans 8 reminds us of a greater truth, we are not slaves. We are sons. We are daughters. We’ve been adopted by God Himself.

This spiritual adoption isn’t symbolic; it’s real. Legal. Eternal. And with it comes a new voice rising from within us: “Abba, Father.” That cry isn’t rooted in insecurity. It’s born from identity.

When you know who your Father is, you begin to live differently. You stop striving for acceptance and start living from it. You stop performing for approval and start resting in love. You stop reacting out of fear and start responding in faith.

Calling God “Abba” is not about feelings; it’s about alignment. It’s about declaring, “I know who I belong to.” Even when life comes at you, you don’t go back to fear, you go back to the Father.

Today, remember this: you are not a spiritual orphan. You don’t have to earn your place. You’ve been chosen, called, and adopted. That’s your identity. That’s your security. That’s your song.

Reflection: Where in your life have you been reacting out of fear instead of living from your identity as God’s child? Declare today: I am a son/daughter.

Prayer: Abba Father, silence the lies that tell me I’m not enough. Replace fear with the confidence of sonship. Help me to walk in my identity and trust that I am held by You. Thank You for calling me Your own. I am safe in Your love. Amen.

Houses of Prayer; Houses of Light In anticipation of temple construction, David offers a remarkable prayer, a prayer that serves as a template or model for each of us as God's stewards. The prophet Isaiah later refers to that very temple as God's 'house of prayer' (Isa 56:7). And David himself anticipates that reality, declaring in Psalm 18:6, 'In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.' A house of prayer. Stewards of God's Good Things Paul is cautioning the Colossians not to stray from the gospel of freedom in Christ and not to listen to those who would submit them to restraints of man-made religious rules. For example, Paul warns against asceticism (see Col 2:21), a renunciation of the material world that denies the body and holds that bodily pleasure is a source of sin. For Christians today, as in Paul's day, the issue is complex. How does one live in the world and properly steward physical pleasures? The culture in the current Western world tends more toward hedonism rather than asceticism. Hedonism is the philosophy that people should deny themselves nothing because the material world is all there is. The answer for Christians is balance. Neither extreme is acceptable nor Biblical.
