The Gift That Keeps on Giving

As this devotional comes to a close, I pray that your heart is filled with the peace and joy that come from knowing Christ. The gift of Jesus never runs out. It strengthens, renews, and comforts us in every season of life.

In 2 Thessalonians 2:16–17 (NIV) we read, “May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by His grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.” The gift of Jesus continues to give us strength to face each day and hope that never fades.

Carry His love into the new year, and let His light guide your path. The joy of Christmas is not meant to last for a day. It was meant to live in your heart forever.

Prayer of Joy

Dear God,

Thank You for giving us the greatest gift of all, Your Son Jesus Christ. Thank You for His love, His sacrifice, and His constant presence in our lives. Fill our hearts with peace and joy this Christmas and help us carry that love through the entire year.

In Jesus’ holy name, Amen.

Living with the Consequences Repeated covenant-breaking has serious consequences. The flipside is that covenant-keeping has positive outcomes. Notice in this passage the central importance of Torah (law) and Israel's chronic recurrent problem of slipping back into all forms of idolatry. Modern Western society is permeated to its core with idolatry, with one particular ism extending its grasp beyond any other - materialism. Unchecked materialism has so infiltrated Christianity and other religious systems that it goes virtually unnoticed by the majority. Stewards of Unity Paul is asking his readers to live together in the unity of the Spirit, to be a fellowship of believers who love, support, encourage and help one another. Author, speaker and church planter John White (1924-2002) says, 'It is not possible to exaggerate the importance of your fellowship with you fellow Christians. You need their love. You need their discipline. They need yours.' White cites the prayer of Jesus in John 17:20-23, in which Jesus prayed specifically for the unity of his followers. Jesus' reason?
